Methodology & sources
How FenceQuotePilot builds its first-pass ranges, what we update, and where the limitations are.
1. Current national benchmarks
Our calculator starts from broad per-linear-foot ranges rather than one national “price”. Current public 2026 sources report wide variation by material and project type.
| Material | FenceQuotePilot planning range | Primary source used |
|---|---|---|
| Wood | $10–$30/ft | Angi 2026 |
| Vinyl | $15–$40/ft | Angi 2026 |
| Chain link | $10–$29/ft for our baseline | Angi 2026; height/gauge can widen this |
| Aluminum | $22–$72/ft | Angi 2026 |
2. Adjustments
Height, terrain, gates and optional removal add planning allowances. Those adjustments are intentionally conservative and clearly labeled as estimates rather than local market facts.
3. Search demand
Keyword data is used to decide which tools deserve a dedicated page. For example, one Google Ads API dataset currently reports about 9,900 U.S. searches/month for “fence calculator”, about 2,400 for “fence cost calculator” and about 2,400 for “fence cost estimator”. Keyword providers can disagree on volume, so we treat these as directional rather than guaranteed traffic.

5. Important limitation
The ranges are planning benchmarks. Local prices can be materially different, and official permits, HOA rules, engineering requirements and product specifications may apply. Always verify before purchasing materials or signing a contract.
